The Iranian government may execute them overnight. We must act immediately!
This morning, 29 July 2020, the families of the five youths who have been sentenced to death, along with their friends and a group of people from Isfahan, gathered in front of Nikbakht Courthouse in the city and held placards that read #اعدام_نکنید (Don’t execute) and protested against the execution sentence of their loved ones. The five death row youths have been denied contact with their families since yesterday.
According to a report that we have received from one of the participants in the protest, the prison director attended the event and threatened to detain them if they continued to protest: “If you give an interview to a media outlet or film here, we will execute the convicted and we will arrest you!” The families of the prisoners and the demonstrators ignored his threats and held the gathering. Government forces attacked the protesters, but families say “our loved ones are innocent and have done nothing wrong! Hold a public trial and let the media cover it so that everyone can see that our loved ones are innocent.” The families have been told that by this evening,22:30 Central European Time(Wednesday 29th July), they will either be executed or pardoned!
It should be noted that the Supreme Court of the Islamic Republic has approved the death sentences of the five youths who attended the November 2019 protest in Khomeini Shahr in Isfahan province. Mohammad Bastami, Mehdi Salehi Ghaleh Shahrokhi, HadiKiani, Majid Nazari Kondari and Abbas Mohammadi have been sentenced to death for participating in protests.
Urgent actions must be taken! The risk of execution is serious. In addition to emergency protests and gatherings, everyone must call on Western parliaments and governments to put the Islamic Republic under pressure to prevent the execution of these young people.
We stopped the execution of three people in Tehran. We can also prevent the execution of these five young men.
